One of Japan's most beloved characters, Doraemon has entertained audiences around the world for over 5 decades.
From 5 Nov 2022 to 5 Feb 2023 you can experience this cultural phenomenon through the works of renowned contemporary Japanese artists such as Takashi Murakami, Mika Ninagawa and Yoshitomo Nara.
Presented by LEYOUKI in collaboration with the National Museum of Singapore, the exhibition pulls together a selection of contemporary artworks that reimagine Doraemon in our changing world, and celebrates its long lasting appeal and impact on contemporary culture.
Original drawings from legendary Doraemon creator and artist Fujiko Fujio will also be exhibited alongside these works.
The exhibition invites you to consider your own relationships and memories of Doraemon, and how this lovable character has grown with you over the years.
First held in 2002, The Doraemon Exhibition has since travelled to 8 cities in Japan, with the most recent stop in Okayama earlier this year.
The exhibition at National Museum of Singapore will be its first ever showing outside of Japan.
The exhibition features distinctive artworks from 28 leading contemporary Japanese artists and arts groups, whose works reflect the theme of "Create Your Own Original Doraemon".
Each artist presents their own take on this beloved icon through a variety of ideas, mediums, and techniques that include paintings, sculptures, graphics, and photography.
In the special feature “MANGA DORAEMON Original Drawings Exhibition”, a selection of Fujiko F Fujio Museum’s original drawings and sketches by the late Mr Fujiko will also be on display.
This will be the first ever public showcase of the Doraemon creator's early and innovative illustrations.
In conjunction with the exhibition, you'll also be able to enjoy Dorayaki (Doraemon's favorite snack) at the Doraemon-themed cafe experience created in collaboration with Toraya, a traditional Japanese confections maker with a history of close to 500 years.
They've even flown in two of their craftsmen directly from their store in Japan!
Doraemon fans can look forward to exclusive Doraemon merchandise, including the Fujiko F Fujio Museum’s original Doraemon collectibles.
