The Artground presents its newest Art Space, "Lost Islands," taking young explorers aged 0-9 years old on an adventure through the rich tapestry of Singapore and Indonesian folklore.
This collaboration between The Artground and Indonesian artist Rachmi Pertama turns legendary tales into an interactive experience.
Turtle Island lets kids climb atop a giant turtle, drawing from the legend of Kusu Island, where a kind turtle transformed into an island to save stranded fishermen.
The Adventure Story Island features a towering, two-story book-shaped structure where children can flip through oversized folktale pages, climb to new heights, and slide into a soft foam pool.
For the youngest visitors, Baby Forest Island offers a cozy, sensory-friendly space inspired by the legend of Sang Nila Utama, with soft pool noodles resembling river plants and comfortable spots to rest and play.
In a collaboration with UOB, financial literacy becomes part of the adventure at the Learning Playzone.
Children get to role-play as store owners in a marketplace boat, selling fish, fruits, and vegetables using seashells, gold, and silver coins as currency.
Each child receives a money card to track earnings and expenses as they take on different jobs around the installation - fishing, performing, or crossing the sensory trail.
They can then decide whether to save, spend, or donate their earnings, learning fundamental money concepts through hands-on activities.
Rachmi Dewi Pertama is a designer who founded UlangAlik puppet theatre and resides in Bandung with her husband (a professional artist) and their two teenage sons.
The family celebrates their older son's neurodivergence and collaborates in puppetry performances, involving both teens in creative development.
When not working, Rachmi enjoys comics, children's literature, doodling, and writing stories.
